Doug Ramage, P.Eng. has been a consultant since 2013 with experience in both the public and private sectors across the Prairie Provinces. Doug has been responsible for leading and coordinating complex multi-disciplinary long-term community development and strategic planning projects. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, certificates in asset management and climate vulnerability risk assessments, as well as professional development course work in communication, public consultations and emergency management. Additionally, Doug has experience in strategic planning, and community development consulting.
Doug understands the importance of community development as part of building resilient communities to connect people with their community and built environment focusing on outcomes that have a positive impact on people’s quality of life. This requires recognizing that the climate is changing and that integrating climate vulnerability risk assessment into community development and asset management plans is a critical piece of establishing a comprehensive risk management framework. Furthermore, a Climate Change Resilience Assessment is a mandatory requirement for projects associated with Infrastructure Canada Funding Programs including the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), Disaster Mitigation and Adaption Fund (DMAF) and Smart Cities Challenge.
Climate change adaptation is often misunderstood as being about the weather; rather it is about risk management and the social, economic, and environmental impact on our communities. Climate change has only intensified the need to improve our disaster preparedness and to do so Doug takes a resilient communities approach to disaster management and emergency planning empowering communities to use their existing skills, knowledge and resources to prevent/mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.
Doug has completed his Incident Command System (ICS) 200 course, in addition to the California Office of Emergency Services Safety Assessment Program Certificate. Doug is developing training modules and manuals for post-disaster rapid damage assessments and is a team leader on his local emergency response team.
Prior to Doug’s career in engineering and planning he launched a successful non-profit with the purpose of helping families financially with emergency vet bills. This required merging its traditional non-profit fundraising with a socially minded, purpose driven clothing and apparel line to support the goals of accessible medical care for companion pets. Through this venture, Doug learned several important lessons during this time the most important of which being cash flow and that no matter what you want to accomplish you need cash flow.
Doug is active in his community volunteering his time with a number of business and community groups including the Prairie Sky Chamber of Commerce as a Director, and a team leader with the Warman Emergency Response Team.
Doug’s motto is: Prepare for Tomorrow. Define Your Future.
