Roger Grona - Snr Business Consultant - C.E.O - Entrepreneur

C.E.O - Senior Business Consultant - Roger Grona - Firebird Business Consulting Ltd. / Ventures Ltd.

Roger is very proud of his Metis heritage. His ancestry is traced back to the 1700’s in the Red River Settlement. He is an Entrepreneur, Business Consultant, Investor and CEO. Roger is the Founder and CEO of Firebird Business Consulting Ltd. Founder, Business Partner and CEO of Firebird Business Ventures Ltd., Investor and Business Partner(ed) in Rethink and Diversify Securities Inc. Venture Market (online exempt market portal), Hall of Fame Coaching (HOF), Aslan Capital Saskatchewan Inc. and a very minor investor in Holmes Approved Homes. Roger is also a Chair for TEC Canada (The Executive Committee).

Starting off in media (on-air), working his way into management in construction in his early twenties and shortly after that he partnered with his brother Keith in Buffalo Bill’s Food Products Ltd. Roger was the CEO and was in charge of sales and business development. He grew Buffalo Bill’s Food Products substantially and in a short period of time, the product went from making a few pounds of formed buffalo jerky to making hundreds of pounds in a week and being carried in 180 stores.

Well, let’s just say they learned a hard lesson in product consistency. Their clients supported them throughout and even when they stopped operating. Roger and his brother went around to all the stores and offered a full refund. They wanted to know that they closed down on the best of terms. Roger closed down Buffalo Bill’s Food Products Ltd., not because he had to but because he needed to. He said he was burnt out. He learned a hard lesson in business, you can do all the right things in growing your sales but focusing on your top line isn’t good enough. In hind sight that was a good move as knowing what Roger knows now he would not have shut down. He didn’t have the fight in him. Now he has learned those are just obstacles, not deal breakers. After they closed down Buffalo Bill’s - Roger became infatuated with sustainability and growing businesses. He is proud of what they did and accomplished with Buffalo Bill’s and gave him the determination to become focused on operating good business models.

Roger went on and worked in Saskatchewan and Alberta oilfields (while living in Saskatchewan) working on Service Rigs, Drilling Rigs and as an Oilfield Battery Operator. As much as he enjoyed the many years on the oilfield, it was time to leave and pursue his dream of becoming a business consultant and entrepreneur.

Roger then spent 8 years Senior Media Marketing/Sales in Saskatchewan radio industry (CJWW, 92-9 the Bull, Rock 102, 104.9 the Wolf). For each station he developed a small list into a Senior Account list in a short period of time. In advertising he had the chance to work with almost every kind of business and industry, consulting on advertising, brand development, recruiting, and business growth.

After leaving radio Roger was recruited on many occasions to grow businesses for a few companies. 7 years Senior Sales Management (executive) experience that involved setting/planning profit based sales targets (writing and executing), set and met large sales quotas. He developed excellent media marketing plans that positioned different brands as the industry leaders. His other Senior Sales Management experience: recruited, mentored, and motivated sales teams and other departments. He prepared reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing relevant market information. He has experience when companies go through growth and knows what to do to go the next stage of the business.

Firebird Business Consulting Ltd. was created as result of Roger consulting for businesses part time, finally his case load was demanding him to consult full time. He left his job and stepped into full time consulting and never looked back. Firebird Business Consulting Ltd.’s consulting expertise involves consulting on marketing, sales and business sustainability. Today, Firebird has successfully completed well over 250+ projects ranging from Business Plans to Business Consulting resulting in happy clients reaching and achieving their desired goals (check out their reviews on Facebook and Google).

Bob Harder - Senior Business Consultant - Firebird

Bob Harder - Senior Business Consultant - Firebird Business Consulting Ltd - Saskatoon - Regina

Bob’s career path began in automotive. He worked in numerous areas of a car dealership eventually moving into a management role. After a number of years in automotive he hungered for more and began the process of becoming a Stock Broker. He completed the Canadian Securities Course in late 1981 and became a licensed Stockbroker, working in that industry in Alberta from 1981-1986 but ultimately making the decision to go back to his roots in the automotive business. His next move was to the company Bob would call home for the next 30+ years. He worked in a variety of management roles and ultimately assumed the General Manager position overseeing the entire company and it’s nine divisions. “I’ve always loved a challenge” says Bob “and being able to implement processes and oversee the growth of a company was a great source of satisfaction”. Between 2013 -2016 he was responsible for the construction management of two new buildings totaling 84,000 square feet and a complete renovation of a third building of 29,000 square feet in addition to his regular duties as General Manager. Thankfully, multi-tasking is his strength. During those years Bob also did media buys, ad copy writing and strategic advertising planning. Over the years, he and his employees amassed an impressive array of awards in nearly every department from sales to service to customer satisfaction and overall operations. That is a testament to the assembly of a great team.

As Bob says, “I was privileged to work in an environment that constantly challenged me and through that I learned much about process allowing me to bring value to any industry”.

More recently, Bob oversaw the development and production of an electric vehicle for use in underground mining. This was a massive project using innovative technology converting an existing diesel truck to all-electric allowing the company he managed to compete on the world stage.

Charitable works are a big part of one’s life and Bob initiated the first automotive partnership with Care & Share Saskatoon, Lows in Motion, (a partnership for Parkinson’s Disease), a major sponsorship with the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan and a continuing sponsorship of Swinging with the Stars (a fundraiser benefitting a number of local charities).

That’s the before but what about now? To quote Bob, “I find that after all these years I still have the hunger and desire for success. There are goals left to be attained and that is what drives me. I bring many years of experience to the table and my greatest satisfaction will be in helping businesses to become more successful and knowing that I played a significant part in that success”.

Bob is a solutions-focused Senior Executive with more than 35 years of success across the automotive and investments industry. Leveraging extensive experience in change management, he is a valuable advisor for an organization going through a restructuring to increase productivity, efficiency and profit. His broad areas of expertise include business analysis, problem-solving, high-level view, growth, process development and implementation.

Carole Hildebrand - Senior Business Consultant

Carole Hildebrand - Business Consultant - Project Management Consulting - Safety Consulting

Carole (Senior Business Consultant - Firebird Business Consulting Ltd.) began her career working in Calgary’s Oil and Gas Industry in an accounting capacity both before and after her graduation from the University of Calgary. She would hone her accounting skills working with post secondary Student Financing at a technical institute. Using her keen business sense Carole first obtained the notion that she could further her entrepreneurial spirit by launching an idea in Saskatchewan. There she owned and operated an electronic repair business employing several people for 11 years. She was involved in every aspect of her business from marketing and procurement to customer relations and contract negotiations. The trend in the electronics repair business was leveling out and with newer and more disposable models entering the market Carole saw this as a need to transition. The demand for electronic repair would diminish and eventually would not support a successful business plan.

Carole returned to the workforce as a Research assistant at the University of Saskatchewan. There she would collect, organize and analyze the data collected by several medical professionals during a 5-year research study. This information she then compiled into a research abstract that focused on the health of children which was later published in a pediatric medical journal. The collection of data in this forum taught Carole that everything is important when looking at the big picture. When you are in business and you want to succeed you must take care of all the little details so that the big picture survives.

After the study was completed Carole moved on to the Manufacturing Industry where she took on a management role. There she once again maintained everything from marketing and procurement to customer relations and contract negotiations. She developed an increased insight into the detail-oriented workflow of trade related professions. It was in this time that Carole obtained several certifications related to Safety management. The need to be safe during a project spurred her to take a closer look at how a project was managed and how the time lost drove down revenue. It was here that she obtained a masters certificate in project management from the University of Saskatchewan and began to apply these skills ensuring that projects were completed on time and on budget.

It did not take long for her skills to be noticed and she was requested to join as a partner in safety consulting company. Several valuable contracts were obtained during her time there developing safety management plans for companies. However, the main thing that was not factored into the business plan was that most companies felt that safety was not a revenue generating venture and would gamble not having one to avoid the expense. This lesson provided Carole with one of her most valuable tools. The ability to gauge a market is not just based on the little details and the notion that it should succeed. Success is also gauged on who you are selling your product to and that just because they need something does not mean they want it.

Carole took these lessons and began teaching these and other principles to business owners as a consultant. Many success stories were generated with one compelling underlying notion…that being a business owner and being an entrepreneur were two very different things. Anyone can own a business but in order to really succeed at it you must also have the entrepreneurial spirit. By spirit she means not only an investment of your hard-earned dollars but you must also have a desire to drive your business forward.

Carole - Senior Business Consultant - is a major component to the success of Firebird Business Consulting Ltd.

Keep your rear-view mirror small because looking behind you only prevents you from seeing where you are going.

Doug Ramage - Sr. Sustainability and Resilience Consultant

Doug Ramage - Sr. Sustainability and Resilience Consultant - Firebird Business Consulting Ltd.

Doug Ramage, P.Eng. has been a consultant since 2013 with experience in both the public and private sectors across the Prairie Provinces. Doug has been responsible for leading and coordinating complex multi-disciplinary long-term community development and strategic planning projects. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, certificates in asset management and climate vulnerability risk assessments, as well as professional development course work in communication, public consultations and emergency management. Additionally, Doug has experience in strategic planning, and community development consulting.

Doug understands the importance of community development as part of building resilient communities to connect people with their community and built environment focusing on outcomes that have a positive impact on people’s quality of life. This requires recognizing that the climate is changing and that integrating climate vulnerability risk assessment into community development and asset management plans is a critical piece of establishing a comprehensive risk management framework. Furthermore, a Climate Change Resilience Assessment is a mandatory requirement for projects associated with Infrastructure Canada Funding Programs including the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), Disaster Mitigation and Adaption Fund (DMAF) and Smart Cities Challenge.

Climate change adaptation is often misunderstood as being about the weather; rather it is about risk management and the social, economic, and environmental impact on our communities. Climate change has only intensified the need to improve our disaster preparedness and to do so Doug takes a resilient communities approach to disaster management and emergency planning empowering communities to use their existing skills, knowledge and resources to prevent/mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.

Doug has completed his Incident Command System (ICS) 200 course, in addition to the California Office of Emergency Services Safety Assessment Program Certificate. Doug is developing training modules and manuals for post-disaster rapid damage assessments and is a team leader on his local emergency response team.

Prior to Doug’s career in engineering and planning he launched a successful non-profit with the purpose of helping families financially with emergency vet bills. This required merging its traditional non-profit fundraising with a socially minded, purpose driven clothing and apparel line to support the goals of accessible medical care for companion pets. Through this venture, Doug learned several important lessons during this time the most important of which being cash flow and that no matter what you want to accomplish you need cash flow.

Doug is active in his community volunteering his time with a number of business and community groups including the Prairie Sky Chamber of Commerce as a Director, and a team leader with the Warman Emergency Response Team.

Doug’s motto is: Prepare for Tomorrow. Define Your Future.

Jason Park - Sr.Business Consultant - Kingston - Ontario

Jason Park - Senior Business Consultant - Firebird Business Consulting Ltd. - Kingston - Ontario

Jason Park decided to form R&D because he has a genuine passion for the small business. He grew up in his grandfather’s grocery store and started his first business when he was 8 years old.

Jason brings over 9 years of capital market experience from various roles at Raymond James, Wellington West, National Bank, Sentinel Financial and now Rethink and Diversify Securities Inc.

Jason also believes in volunteering and giving back to the community

“We can’t solve the problems we currently have with the same thinking that we used when they were created.”

Jason Park is the founder, Chairman of the Board, CEO, Chief Compliance Officer, and Dealing Representative of Rethink And Diversify Securities Inc.

Jason decided to form R&D because he has a genuine passion for “small business” and he’s inspired by working with people that have a vision for their business and focus on executing their vision day in and day out. What’s more – the business is often tangible and backed by an easy to understand asset like real estate.

Jason graduated with Distinction in Finance at the University of Saskatchewan in 2009 and has over a decade of capital markets experience from various roles as an advisor at Raymond James, Wellington West, Sentinel Financial, and for the last 6 years in his role at R&D.  Having worked with hundreds of clients over that time frame - Jason knew early on in his career that there was a problem with how most portfolios were being constructed for clients.

If the average Canadian’s portfolio was properly diversified from a risk perspective, how could it be possible that an event like 2008 could cause a person to hold off retirement and change their life plans? It didn’t make any sense. What were we missing?

There had to be a solution that would add income streams to a portfolio which could produce returns as good or better than the market return, while decreasing risk from an overall portfolio perspective to hedge against 2008 style events. The key was to selectively add non-correlating asset streams with expected returns greater than the market return. Enter the exempt market or private capital market.

Put more simply, he combined his quest for a solution to a better portfolio structure with his love for “small business” entrepreneurship (private capital) and Rethink & Diversify was born.

Over the last four years, R&D has grown by slightly more than 100% per year on average and has placed more than $50M in exempt market securities over that timeframe. With an industry leading platform for Representatives and their clients, the growth continues.

Results matter.

Always Respect The Capital.

He served on many committees during this time with many cultural and community groups as the Chief’s Liaison and assisted in the creation of many crime prevention strategies. He has taught cultural awareness to police officers at the University of Regina Police College. As a regular member the challenge was clear which he accepted and succeeded where others may have failed. He brokered many relationships between the police service and several aboriginal communities and organizations that are still strong to this day. The result of implementing training and policies that assisted in sustaining them.

During this time Michael started a Landscaping company called Lawn enforcement that saw much success. However, after completing a competitive analysis in the landscaping industry he opted to sell the company in favor of a new endeavour, Project Management. He obtained a Masters Certificate in Project Management from the University of Saskatchewan and being a graduate of the Saskatchewan Police College has greatly assisted him in being able to plan projects and manage people in a way that that is the most effective.
